Fall 2026 Season: Frequently Asked Questions
Please review thoroughly as there is new information/requirements for fall.
Registration and Waitlist 📝
Question
Answer
Can the season sell out?
Yes. Even if you register before the deadline, it's possible your player may be placed on a waitlist. Register early to ensure a spot on a team. Registration opens June 1st.
What happens if a division is full and I'm waitlisted?
SMYB will email you if a spot opens up. You will have a limited amount of time to complete the payment and lock in the slot before we move to the next child on the waitlist.
What is the refund policy?
August 5, 2026, is the final day to drop and request a refund, as drafts begin after evaluations. Drops requested after 8/5/26 will not receive a refund or credit. Please direct your request for a drop to Jordan Purpura.
How do I find more information on registration?
Please check out our registration information page.
New for Fall 2026, the City of San Marcos is requiring proof of residency. Currently this does not exclude non-San Marcos residents from participating. You will be required to upload a utility bill during the registration process. This documentation is subject to audit.
Division Placement
How do I know what division my child should play in?
SMYB follows the Pony Baseball Chart for placement. Find your child's date of birth below to identify the appropriate division for the 2026 season. Fall will revert back to traditional Pony Chart for all divisions.

Season Schedule and Time Commitment 🗓️
How long does the season run?
The season runs for just over three months. Practices begin August 24, 2026. Games start September 6, 2026 and continue through the November 22, 2026.
What is the time commitment for players?
Teams typically require a commitment of two days per week for Foal and Shetland: one weeknight practice and one Sunday game. Older divisions may have an additional weeknight game, making their commitment three days per week (Pinto through Bronco will have games on Sunday, and possibly a Tues or Thurs night if it is a double game week, in addition to their practice night). New for Fall - Games may be played between 8am - 6pm.
Fees, Equipment, and Teams⚾
Fees and Inclusions
What are the fees?
Fees are $150 for Foal & Shetland and $225 for Pinto and above. A sibling discount of $30 is offered.
What is included in the fees?
Players receive a jersey and hat. Fees cover league expenses such as insurance, playing equipment (baseballs, catcher's gear, etc.), field maintenance, utility bills (lights, turf repair), and snack bar repairs. SMYB is a non-profit, volunteer-run organization, and all funds directly benefit the players and league operations.
Required Equipment
What additional equipment will I need to purchase?
Players must have their own glove, bat, and batting helmet. A bat bag is recommended. Players in the Pinto through Pony divisions are also required to wear a protective cup. Players will need to purchase baseball pants, a belt, and socks (hat and jersey are provided by the league). Managers will specify the required color.
Team Formation
Can we request a specific teammate, coach, or practice day?
No, SMYB does not honor friend or schedule requests. Teams in the Pinto, Mustang, Bronco, and Pony divisions are formed via draft. Exception: For the Foal/Shetland division only, friend requests can be submitted during registration or directly to the Shetland Director via the website's contact us link.
Is attendance at Evaluations required?
No, it is not strictly required. All players who register before the draft, pay their fees, and are not waitlisted will be placed on a team. However, players are strongly encouraged to attend evaluations so managers can accurately assess skills before the draft. This process ensures teams are equally balanced. Foal/Shetland do not have evaluations.
