UMPIRE PROGRAM

ABOUT US

Eric Field

UMPIRE DIRECTOR

Although he has only started his 6th year of umpiring, Eric has been affiliated with SMYB for 11 years from his previous time coaching. In addition to SMYB, he has umpired for Carlsbad, Escondido and La Costa Youth Baseball Leagues, District 31 Little League and High School baseball in North County.

In 2018 he developed a formal training program for the Youth Umpires and became Youth Umpire Coordinator in 2020 and by Fall of 2021, he was supervising both Adult and Youth Umpires.

With the league now back in full operation after the Covid shutdown, Eric realized he needed help running the program. He recruited fellow umpires Mike Heavner and Apar Mahajan to supervise the Adult and Youth umpires respectively and allow him to focus on coordinating and networking with surrounding leagues, recruiting, training and facilitating growth of the umpire program.

If you love baseball, are calm under pressure, have good decision-making skills, thrive in a team environment and want to contribute to your community then we want you! SMYB is seeking adult umpires to officiate games and help mentor our group of nearly 40 youth umpires! Experience preferred but not required, we will train you! Comes with competitive pay and flexible scheduling. Must be 18+. For more information, please contact Eric via the league website.

Mike Hevener

ADULT UMPIRE COORDINATOR
Mike has been an umpire for over 20 years and has coached/umpired with San Marcos Youth Baseball for the past four years. He enjoys being an umpire because it provides an opportunity to stay involved in the great game of baseball, despite no longer playing. Most of Mike’s umpiring experience is in Southern California and Arizona, but he has had the opportunity to umpire in Australia and Japan.
